Combination Skin:

Most people have combination skin.

Sensitive Skin:

Sensitive skin is often associated with fair skin.  It is sensitive to external and internal factors and can be red across the cheeks and nose.

Find out what type of skin you have.

We all fall into the following main skin types, no matter what our ethnic origin.  Scroll or click down to find out what type of skin you have.

Our skin type can change in response to the environment, sun exposure, health, diet and exercise, time of year and age.  Annosa Skincare products work together and can easily be mixed and matched in response to seasonal and aging skin changes.
Skin Types:
Acne (Condition Associated with Oily Skin):

Acne starts at puberty, and can flare up at any age, even after menopause.  Don't let any doctor tell you otherwise.

The causes of acne are not completely understood.  It is known that androgens, the male sex hormones that we all have, play a role in producing too much oil.  Excessive oil and dead skin cells block the pores, causing blackheads, if the pores are open to the air, or whiteheads, if the pores are closed.    Bacteria that are always on the skin get trapped in the blocked pores.  They produce chemicals and enzymes that trigger an immune response by the white blood cells, resulting in inflammation taking the following forms:

If you have persistent and recurring acne, it is important to consult your dermatologist and use products that are compatible with any medically recommended treatment.

Dry Skin:

Flaking skin can be associated with other skin types and should not be confused with dry skin.  For example, Combination/oily/acne skin can flake as a result of drying products or trauma to the outer skin layers from squeezing blackheads, whiteheads and pimples.

Rosacea (Condition Often Associated with Sensitive Skin):

Rosacea is a condition associated with sensitive and fair skin.  It appears as flushing and redness in the centre of the face over the cheeks and nose.  It can affect both men and women.  Hot flushes during menopause can aggravate Rosacea.

In time the flushing becomes permanently red, with bumps and visible blood vessels.  In advanced cases, usually with men, the nose may become bulbous.  Rosacea is sometimes misdiagnosed as acne.

The causes of Rosacea are not yet completely understood; however, it is thought to be a condition of the blood vessels.  As the vessels react to stimuli again and again, they become damaged and remain dilated, causing the permanent flushing and redness.  An immune response is thought to trigger the acne-like condition associated with Rosacea.

If you think you have Rosacea, it is important to contact a dermatologist and only use mild products that are compatible with any medically recommended treatment.

Aging Skin:

In our 40's and 50's the skin's collagen and elastin start to break down from years of sun exposure, other environmental damage and genetics.

Jacquie Kangas is a fully qualified aesthetician.  It is important to consult a doctor – preferably a dermatologist – for advice about any skin concerns, such as acne, rosacea, or psoriasis, that need medical treatment.
Oily Skin:

Oily skin wrinkles less with age.
